Food Drink and Fun in Margaritaville
Our first party at Carl & Robin’s was soon named the 1st Annual British Car Club Party and Geezer Olympics. What a blast! Our first clue this was more than a sit and eat were the bags and caps of different colors – each for pre-selected teams. There would be feats of strength, agility, and egads – memory.
All things begin with work as Carl & Bill set to work putting up the tents and tables. Inside, Robin and Barb began preparing dishes. Food would be plentiful as members began arriving with various salads, side dishes , and desserts.
Meester Beeel from Margaritaville kept the margaritas coming and we soon became a jolly crew.
Everyone took a look at the race car. This is the Radical Robin races in SCCA events. She is fast and so is Robin. She took us through her trophy room. Quite a collection of trophies and awards.
“THE GEEZER OLYMPICS” First up was a car parts yard darts. The goal was to land a car part in one of three circles for points. We needed bigger circles. The lever shock, hubcap, and eared knockoff rarely found a target. The red team of David, Lynette, Lalage, & Bonnie pulled out a win when Lilage landed one in a circle.
As we rested, from the laughter – not exertion, Carl readied us for the next event. We found a new use for panty hose. Tommy gave us a demo and the races were on. See the video at the bottom of this page. How’s it hanging – indeed!
Dan and Olivia took over grill duties and soon the crew dove in to some delicious food. Plenty and delicious. Many a tall tale were swapped at the various tables.
Oh, I forget, we had a test of memory. As I was looking at a picture board with handwritten captions, Carl said, “There will be a test later.” He was serious. Full of food and drink, we now faced the hardest test of the day. Memory – at our age. C’mon. Again the red team came close enough to eek out an overall victory and took home the prizes.
The “Coolest Shirt of the Day” prize went to Bobby Gunter. But which shirt? He had on a T-shirt with a print of himself and his 100-4 with Donald Healey from years past in Dallas. He could have won the “Coolest Dude” award too.
