On Saturday, February 15, with perfect weather, we visited the Gene Jones Antique Tractor Museum and American Indian artifact display in Millbrook. We met at the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot and headed out at 9:30 on a brief but scenic drive via Alabama River Parkway. We arrived at the museum at 10:00 with 28 members and friends and several little British cars including two Jaguars, two MINIs, three MGBs, and Bobby’s Austin Healey 3000 . Our tour began with an introduction by Mr. Jones, owner and restoration specialist, recounting the long sequence of events that led to his antique tractor restoration hobby. We found the more than 40 antique tractors, a huge collection of Native American artifacts, and other antiques most interesting.
At 11:30, we left the museum and adjourned for lunch at Casa Napol in Wetumpka. Fourteen members continued here and found the food was really good. Jon Maldonado and his friend Jeff showed up in a 1972 Mercedes Unimog. Once the time changes, it might be fun to ask him to bring it to the Young Barn and do a show and tell for a meeting program.
A big “thank you” to Pam for planning and making this outing possible.
