Marti Gras in Wetumpka , Alabama – Perfect 58 degree – top down afternoon. Alex in his 1980 Mini, Fred and Sharon in their Porsche, Dr. Peden, Terry and Georgia in the Jag readied for The Order of Cimarron, Wetumpka’s Fourth Annual Mardi Gras Festival & Parade. Arriving at the First Baptist Church parking lot parade starting point we unpacked our decorations, beads and Moon Pies ready to throw. After a short car decorating session we waited in anticipation for the horn to go off and within moments we were on our way. We turned right onto highway 14 and East Bridge Street lined on both sides with Marti Gras party goers. Speaking for Dr. Peden – my shotgun rider and myself we began tossing moon pies and beads to the spectators delight. I must confess I held up the parade a bit focused on getting beads to some of the little ones and making sure as many moon pies found their mark – outward stretched hands. When we finally arrived at the end we all discovered we had few beads remaining and a hand full of Moon Pies that Dr. Peden snatched to make sure they were up to Mardi Gras standards – along with a few strings of beads for his Granddaughter. With the last of the floats and brightly decorated cars pulling out of the parking lot to go home we headed down Rt14 and Rt 231 to go home – with the top-down of course. What great fun! [Slideshow]
