2016 Father’s Day Car Show

Sunday June 19th – The Evangel Church sponsored their annual Father’s Day Car and Bike Show.  Initially Andy received the notice and invite and forwarded on to our club.  I immediately posted the event on the BMCM Facebook page and Russell put it on our 2016 schedule of events.   The email notice Andy forwarded provided a link to their registration page – I filled it out and within a minute or so received an email confirmation.  Easy!  There was no cost involved and as it turned out the entire event was subsidized by either the Evangel Church or individual benefactors.  The show also included a t-shirt.  Of course I blew by that selection on the registration page and found (by default) I selected a small shirt.  Haven’t been able to get into that size since the 8th grade and no guessing how long ago that was…

Father’s Day arrives – a perfect top-down day – off to Starbucks for my daily wake-me-up and on to Vaughn and Perry Hill.  Rolled in by 8:00am (yes a bit early) and got in line.  There were several booths- one for pre-registration and one for not registered.  Next stop was the Photo.  I have to mention there were many volunteers directing traffic to the photography area and to the parking lanes.   The drivers were given very specific instructions where to pull up and when to stop.  Not used to that!  As I pulled up to have my photo taken I saw David in my rear view mirror.   Since we were close together in line, the staff who were parking cars let us park together.  We were the only British Cars!  I noticed while I was waiting my turn to park the Evangel helpers used a golf cart as a “Follow Me” vehicle making certain no one strayed by parking where they wanted.  They used chalk lines to align everyone in a herringbone pattern with rear of the cars facing outward.  This was a good Idea that when everyone started to leave they just pulled forward.

Once David and I parked we set up our flags (we were the only ones to do that) many folks came by to admire our British Cars.  Maybe there would be an award in our future.  But that faded pretty fast since there were so many beautifully restored and new cars – some serious competition.  The church offered donuts and coffee – I was in bad need of a refill so we headed in that direction.  We grabbed our t-shirt and found the coffee station.  I’m not a big donut eater but I did eat one and refill my coffee.  Walking out of the church we noticed a small concession on the church’s deck.  Hot dogs!!  Again, no cost!  What a great deal! David and I wolfed down two each and settled back and enjoyed the cars.   I thing the most interesting one was a Truck.  This baby had more modifications and features – it was almost a “Transformer” – well it was a transformer.  I’m not going to guess how much money was invested – let’s just say a bunch.

It was now time to vote.  We made our selections and when the results were tabulated we headed for the church auditorium to find out the results.  As were predicted – we came up empty.  Where’s Alex when you need him?

It was a great morning – not too hot and humid and lots of great cars.  Hey! I’m thinking about attending next year.  How about you?
