What a great Christmas celebration we all experienced on the 10th of December at Sugar B’s. This was the British Motoring Club of Montgomery’s annual Christmas Dinner Party. And a party it was! More importantly, it was a gathering of close friends whose kinship grows stronger at each event.
As we began arriving at 5:30 we found the room decorated to the “T’s” thanks to Verna and Cathy. Beautiful red poinsettia centerpieces contrasted by traditional white tablecloths – just stunning. If you weren’t in the mood for Christmas before you arrived you definitely were now!
After brief opening remarks and welcome, Bob gave the blessing – it was time to eat. Sugar B’s food is exceptional and certainly was for our Christmas Party. I can attest that I cleaned my plate! I would have gone back for seconds but glad I didn’t after looking a couple of photos… Yikes!
Dinner progressed and it was time to present our annual awards – The Canavan and Needham awards. As a bonus to this year’s awards was our presentation to Children’s Harbor on Lake Marin. First our club awards are presented to members who most exemplify the aims of the British Motoring Club — the Canavan award, starting in 1996 and donated by Mike & Jan Canavan when they returned to England, for most improved car(s), and the Needham award, beginning in 2003 and donated by George & Kathi Needham, recognizes a member for club participation. This years recipients are Earl Gardner for the Canavan Award based on the progress on his Alpine and Tom Miro for the Needham Award for is tireless efforts on behalf of our annual car show and standing up to do the clubs newsletter all year. Congratulations to both – well done!
Finally, we were delighted to present Children’s Harbor Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Myrle Grate, a check for $500.00, roughly 50 percent of our car show registration fee. Myrle thanked our club for our generosity and invited our club to their April Art Show by the Lake (Martin), an event I’m looking forward to. As we were enjoying our dessert, it was time for the dirty Santa extravaganza.
Our names were called one by one – we had a great time selecting a gift – holding our breath if it was a good one and not stolen. Conversely crossing our fingers that it would if not so good. One gift that sticks out – someone received bacon and a dozen eggs… Well breakfast is guaranteed for that person. I ended up with a mantel-sitting character I think comes from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. He looks cute up there on its lofty perch looking over the living room. I did notice chocolate was passed the most. Might be worth noting for future Santa events.
The annual British Motoring Club of Montgomery’s Christmas Dinner Party had come to an end. Conversations lingered as we headed to our cars. Special thanks go to Verna and Cathy for hosting a great event.
See you all soon!
