2015 Christmas Party

Merry Christmas!

The British Motoring Club driving our little cars
we found ourselves in Prattville gazing at the stars.

Driving down Main Street we could see a parade forming
but with a little luck we would soon be meeting.

We had one more turn and we’d be home free
with that last turn we arrived at Sugar B’s.

Parking the car we gathered our gifts
we could see through the window some were admiring the glitz.

Upon entering the door we were greeted with laughter
we happily signed in and joined in thereafter.

As we all arrived we all took our seats
Bob said a prayer and we sat down to eat.

We presented our awards and read the citations
we all applauded our winners with great admiration.

Our dirty Santa came next with all in a tizzy
Bob called out the numbers and we selected as quickly.

On our way out the door a “good night” to Verna and Cathy
Without whom our night would not have been classy.

As we pulled out to go home we had one last pitch
Merry Christmas to all and that’s a final wish!

The 2015 British Motoring Club of Montgomery’s Christmas party was another astounding success.

This year we held our annual Christmas dinner at Sugar B’s in Prattville, AL. This was a catered affair and judging from the feedback, we liked the simplicity and the food was terrific. No one went home hungry!

The annual Christmas dinner is one of the few times during the year the majority of our BMCM members get together and catch up on what’s happened over the past year. This year was no exception.

Our dirty Santa went off as expected. As trading (stealing) went on, I observed that everyone went away very happy. It seems as if the final gift exchange was planned. Such a deal!

Our evening was topped off by the presentation of the Needham and Canavan Awards. At the end of each year, awards are presented to members who most exemplify the aims of the British Motoring Club — the Canavan award, starting in 1996 and donated by Mike & Jan Canavan when they returned to England, for most improved car(s), and the Needham award, beginning in 2003 and donated by George & Kathi Needham, recognizes a member for club participation. Recipients receive their awards at the year-end Christmas party and keep the award at home until it is returned for the next winner.

This year the Canavan award went B. Welch for his Triumph Spitfire. The Needham award went to Doris and Roland Townley for their continued participation as our BMCM newsletter editors. *

In closing out our year, we must thank our BMCM officers – Bob, Pam, Andy, and Cathy; appointed board members – David, Russell, and Brandon for keeping our car club on track. And thanks to our committees – Web site, Russell; Newsletter, Roland and Doris, and finally our Librarian, Andy. A special thanks to our membership without which there would not be a BMCM. Have a Happy Holiday Season – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for 2016.

* It is with great pride that we celebrate Doris and Roland Townley’s 13 years of publishing our monthly – I repeat – Monthly – British Motoring Club of Montgomery “Brits and Pieces” Newsletter. I know all who have read “Brits and Pieces” thoroughly enjoyed the content and the quality of the articles within. Further, many motoring clubs are envious and have remarked through the years wishing “Brits and Pieces” was theirs!

Those of us who have contributed articles are grateful of Doris and Roland’s editorial scrutiny and appreciative of their attention to the finer details of creating essentially a monthly work of art.  Their legacy as “Brits and Pieces” editors will live on as part of the British Motoring Club of Montgomery.

I believe I speak for all BMCM members when I say:  “Well done and thank you very much!”
