I scream, you scream, we all scream for a ride on twisty back roads for some ice cream. So, on August 16, Don and Verna Green, in their gorgeous Antigua blue XK8, led us on a scenic trip from our meeting place at the Catfish House in Millbrook through Coosada, Elmore, Slapout (aka Holtville), Wadsworth, Maubry, Verbena, Cooper, and finally to our destination at Peach Park in Clanton [MAP]. Along for the ride were: first time visitors, Brian and Jun Qua Takacs in their nicely blinged MINI Cooper S; Don & Verna, Jaguar XK8; Terry; Jaguar XK8; Ron & Joyce, Jaguar XJS V12; David & Andy, MGA; Russell & Cathy, MINI Cooper S; Bill, Triumphus; Don, Hondalorean S2000; Hamer & Lalage, MGiata; and Bob & Marion, XKursion.
Sunny and hot, it was a perfect morning for ice cream. Once there, we then had the difficult decisions of choosing from the many tempting items on the menu: ice cream or milkshake, cone or bowl, fried pie or cobbler or maybe just fresh peaches — tough calls for all. Peach Park has shaded tables outside for relaxing and visiting. The park also has walking trails, a playground, and a meeting house for which meals can be catered by the Peach Park kitchen.
With sweet tooths sated, and British car fat thoroughly chewed, we went our separate ways home with some retracing our trip back home and others taking the express route down I-65.
Special thanks to Don for hosting and planning this ride for us.
