On August 14, 2010, we drove to the British Motoring Club of Birmingham’s car show held at Buck Creek Park in Pelham. David (with Brandon as copilot) in the MGA and Russell in the MINI, led the caravan up old US 31. We met up with Malcolm in his MGB and the Bhallas in Prattville in the Lotus Elise and Jaguar XKF. It was a beautiful ride, but the skies darkened with each mile. We were still dry when we stopped in Jemison for petrol. But, by the time we reached Alabaster the heavens opened up.
David, with the A’s wipers and defroster taking the day off was apparently driving from memory. He said he was just following tail lights. When we arrived at the park it was ankle-deep in water. Soon after, the show was called-off due to the possibility of a flash flood. Everyone received their entry fee back, except for the person who registered online. Ask David if that was a good idea. We had to settle for hamburgers at the Depot Deli & Grill just outside the park. There we were met by Davis’s high school friends who live in Pelham and Wil & Helen Meade in their MINI Cooper S. Oh well, the hamburgers were great!
